Breast lift surgery was performed for the first time in the 1900s and since then, it has continued to gain popularity worldwide. The surgery helps women deal with their insecurities about their breast size, sagginess and the shape, size, and alignment of the areola and the nipples. Moreover, having your desired body posture adds up to your confidence.
Also called mastopexy, breast lift surgery is performed by a plastic surgeon. The doctor repositions the areola and the nipples a little higher and stitches up the extra tissue to give some lift and support to the breasts.
It is always good to have proper knowledge about the whole surgical procedure before going through with it. Here is a detailed explanation of the procedure, types, risk factors, and breast lift cost in Delhi.
A breast lift is a surgical procedure that addresses the issues related to the shape and position of the areola, nipples, and breasts.
With passing age, the breasts lose their natural firmness and elasticity which leads to sagging, difference in their sizes, and a decrease in breast volume.
This process is carried out by a plastic surgeon and involves making incisions on and along the breasts. There are three types of breast lift surgeries depending on the type of incision made. These include:
The doctor decides which approach would work best for an individual, depending on the shape and size of the breasts, size, and position of the areola, degree of breast sagging, and the amount of extra skin tissue present in the breasts.
Apart from the age factor, pregnancies, major weight loss, and even gravity contribute to the sagging of the breasts. A breast lift adds a lift to the breasts, adjusts the positions of the areola and the nipples, and makes them look more youthful and firm. You can get a breast lift surgery if you're facing any of the following conditions
Along with any of these problems, if you think your breasts have too little or too much volume, you can pair up the breast lift with a breast augmentation or a breast reduction surgery respectively.
While women of all ages can undergo this surgery, it is often advised for women over 35 years of age. It is best to avoid the surgery if you're planning to get pregnant or are breastfeeding. Consult with your doctor if you are suffering from diabetes or any other such condition.
Before the surgery, you should visit a doctor to determine if you are physically eligible for the procedure. The doctor would inquire about your medical history and any underlying medical condition like diabetes and hypertension. They might also perform two mammograms a few months apart before deeming you fit for the surgery.
A breast lift surgery is performed by a licensed plastic surgeon. The whole procedure can take anywhere between 2 to 5 hours, depending on the area of skin to be operated on. The doctor would administer general anesthesia to the patient to keep her unconscious throughout the surgery.
Initially, the doctor would make incisions near the areola to lift it and the nipple higher. They would stitch up the excess skin from above the areola below the breast surface to reshape it and add some support and firmness. Then, they would close the incision and tighten the remaining excess skin on the breast and stitch it up together into the breast tissues several layers below the surface. This adds firmness to the breast and gives it a natural-looking lift.
After the surgery, your breasts would be covered in gauze and bandages until the stitches heal. You would feel soreness from the incisions and the stitches and there might be a temporary loss of sensation in the areola and the nipples. Within two weeks of the surgery, you would begin to heal. Throughout the healing period, take the prescribed medications and follow the instructions given by the doctor.
Like any other surgical procedure, breast lift also comes with some probable side effects. One major and obvious one is scarring. The incisions and stitches leave behind scars. Although they get lighter over time, they are there. You can talk to your surgeon beforehand about the position of the incisions if you are concerned about the scars.
Other possible side effects include severed nerve cells in the areolar region, leading to temporary loss of sensation in the areola and nipples which could take a few weeks or months to return to normal. Allergic reaction to anesthesia during the surgery is also a risk.
However, it's worth mentioning that any severe side effect is very rare and can be prevented by following the doctor's instructions and taking the necessary precautions.
The breast lift cost in Delhi may vary between 1 lakh to 2.5 lakh INR. The exact cost to carry out the procedure varies depending on the surgeon's expertise, the hospital, and the surgical method.
